AVON LAKE — Save for an eye-catching yellow tank perched in the back of the truck bed, the idling Ford F-150 parked near JGD Associates in Avon Lake yesterday looked like any other.
Like all automakers, Ford has invested aggressively in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. But meeting ambitious new U.S. fuel economy standards -- a fleet average of 54.5 m.p.g. by 2025 -- will take more than a well-meaning faith that American car buyers will embrace alternative powertrains.
